What is Banh Mi – Vietnamese sandwiches
Banh Mi or Vietnamese sandwiches is the special name foreigners take for a kind of these handheld meals. Are you curious what is the difference between “Vietnamese sandwiches and other sandwiches in the world.? That difference comes from flavor, ingredients, and especially the combination of French cuisine and Vietnamese, so the people who have visited my country, must not have forgotten the Vietnamese street food: Banh Mi
As it turned out, one of the most lasting effects of French rule in Vietnam was their barbecue. Baguette was introduced to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) during the French colonial period and spread throughout the southern city of the country before coming to North Vietnam and becoming popular throughout the country.
Many lovers of Vietnamese cuisine and French cuisine consider banh mi an excellent example of fusion food. Its combinations include ingredients from the French (baguettes, pâté, and mayonnaise ) with native Vietnamese ingredients, such as coriander, cucumber, pickled carrots, and daikon. What a great combination! It may urge visitors to try this dish immediately.
Banh Mi not only represents fusion food, but it has become the embodiment of street food. You can look for and enjoy Banh Mi at almost all stalls and vendors in Hanoi
The price of each Banh Mi is reasonable, even very cheap ( 15.000 VND to 25.000 VND, so you can completely afford each
It may be a cheap street food, but it is also an international culinary force. Banh mi was listed in the top 10 of the world’s best street food, by Lonely Planet, and the “Banh mi” was added to the Oxford English Dictionary on March 24, 2011.
In an article published in 2012, the Guardian said: “A little-known secret is that the world’s best sandwich isn’t found in Rome, Copenhagen or even New York City, but on the streets of Viet Nam.”
