Located at the Old Quarter, Hang Gai Street – Silk Street is famous for fashion boutiques and tailor shops selling the high quality, fashionable silk materials, traditional Vietnamese cloth and home furnishings, which has become its characteristics for decades.
Located on the edge of Hanoi’s Old Quarter near Hoan Kiem Lake, Silk Street is famous for its quality and choice of craftsmen, although two of our absolute favorites on Hang Gai Street are Khai Silk and Tan My Design because both stores offer ready-made clothes – perfect if you are too pressed to get the right outfit on your vacation in Hanoi. The suits can be available within 24 hours, although it is best to have more time for the second wear to ensure that your outfit is perfectly designed.
Most stores in Gai Gai Street accept credit card payments and they pay to come to a better quality store and avoid market street traders to ensure the best quality silk. Bargaining is one of the important skills when you go shopping in Vietnam, so bargaining is often encouraged to get a decent price – start at 50% off the asking price and pay no more than 70%. In addition to boutiques and tailor shops Hang Gai Street is a street gathering a number of souvenir shops selling notebooks, lamps, and postcards as well as prominent art galleries such as Thang Long Art Gallery and Green Palm Gallery.
