I joined the “Hanoi First Day: Highlights & Local Life Uncovered” free walking tour with Pinky as my guide, and Thea joined us as she’s training to become a tour guide. It was just the three of us, which made the experience feel really personal and relaxed. The tour was originally delayed by one day, but that turned out to be a good thing — on my first day, I visited Hoa Lo Prison (Maison Centrale) on my own, which is usually part of the tour. Because of that, Pinky spontaneously adjusted the route and took me to Train Street, where we watched the train pass through. It was such an amazing and unique experience! Pinky and Thea were a bit nervous as the train approached, which made the moment even more fun 😄 We used bicycles to get from one spot to another, which was my first time joining the Asian traffic. Coming from Europe, I’m not used to such busy streets, so it was great to have their guidance and not do it alone. We also stopped at a local Vietnamese restaurant, where Pinky recommended some fantastic dishes — definitely a highlight of the day. Both Pinky and Thea were wonderful company: warm, friendly, and fun to talk to. I really enjoyed spending time with them and learning about the city. I’d absolutely do this tour again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hanoi!

It was a little bit of everything. Hoa La Prison, cycling around Hanoi and a little snack afterwards. Pinky and Quang were so upbeat and fresh. And kept us safe during the ride. It’s worth a trip 🙂

This tour was wonderful! Our tour guide, Huyen and Quang was extremely knowledgeable about all of the historic sites, as well as any questions we had. I was worried about biking in a large city like in Hanoi where the traffic is very busy, but Huyen and Quang always made sure everyone in the group was able to keep up. Definitely recommend this tour to learn about history and culture of Hanoi in a fun way.

My tour guide was Huyen — she’s truly an amazing and knowledgeable guide. We started the tour by visiting Hỏa Lò Prison, where Huyen shared fascinating stories and insights about Hanoi’s history, from its early formation to the different periods the city has gone through, including Chinese rule, French colonial influence, and the Vietnam War. It really helped me understand Hanoi on a deeper level. During the tour, I also had the chance to learn some basic Vietnamese phrases, which was such a fun and useful experience. One of the most memorable parts was riding a bicycle through the streets of Hanoi, taking in the city’s atmosphere in such an authentic way. I loved seeing the local life up close, something I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise. We ended the tour with a delicious local dish that truly captured the flavors of Vietnam. It was the perfect way to wrap up an incredible day. Thank you so much, Huyen, for being such a kind, enthusiastic, and thoughtful guide — you made this experience unforgettable!

We had an amazing tour with Pinky! She was very knowledgeable and guided us through the Hoa Lo Prison (where we even got to see a free performance!). Then, we cycled by some sights and ended up at the West Lake, where Pinky took us to an amazing restaurant to try traditional Vietnamese dishes. We left very satisfied, with a bunch of tips of places to go to in Hanoi! Thank you so much!
