The conversation began with the Chinese invasion of the country, a conflict that had lasting effects on the history of the nation and its people. This was followed by the wars against the French and Americans, two of the nation’s most formidable adversaries, each of which left its own distinct mark on the country’s culture, society and politics. Finally, the conversation ended with the Post War period, a time of rebuilding and renewal for the nation, and a period of hope for the future. It was a time of great progress and prosperity, and it provided the nation with a new foundation upon which to build.

The Vietnam War was a conflict between North and South Vietnam during the Cold War. It began in 1955 and ended in 1975, with the fall of Saigon in the South. During this time, France had a long and complex history in Vietnam, having colonized the area in the late 19th century.
French influence in Vietnam was pervasive, ranging from language, culture, politics, and economics. Vietnamese people experienced a number of changes as a result of French colonization, including increased access to education, improved infrastructure, and the introduction of new ideas and technologies.
However, the French also brought with them a system of colonial oppression, including forced labor and taxation. This led to widespread discontent among the Vietnamese people and ultimately to the Vietnam War.

Thank you for reaching out! The Hoa Lo prison is open every day of the week, but the Military History Museum is closed on Mondays and Fridays. Therefore, the tour is only available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. We had one last free day in Hanoi and we wanted to learn more about the city with a local guide so we booked a walking tour with Quang and we were so happy we did.
Our guide, Quang was excellent. He was so welcoming to us and so knowledgeable about the history of Vietnam. We learned so much at each of the places we visited.
On our three hour tour we went to two different locations: Hoa Lo Prison, the Army museum.
He answered all of our questions and even gave us some tips (bargaining, food, and key words/phrases in Vietnamese) and suggested other places to check out.
